Explanation
A program is underway to use a sounding rocket to demonstrate the performance of the detonation engine as a propulsion vehicle for the first time in space flight. The chemiluminescence extending to the lower left is a jet of high-pressure gas burned by the methane-oxygen detonation. The jet of high-pressure gas is produced by the detonation propagating through the small gap at the bottom of the annular cylinder type detonation engine.

Explanation
Please move the position where you are looking, from upper side to lower side in the picture. You can find two flamelets are chasing each other. It is like playing tag. Chasing of the flamelets, that is, propagation of edge flames, are observed in a blowoff process of a ring-shaped diffusion flame formed with an axisymmetric wall jet burner. The two flamelets never be able to catch up with each other because these are in symmetric positions on the ring-shaped porous plate, which issues a gaseous fuel flow. The axisymmetric wall jet burner developed by the authors, consists of a round nozzle and a ring-shaped porous plate which is embedded in a flat impinging plate. Using the burner, we can examine fundamental characteristics of edge flames without end effect two-dimensional diffusion flames always have. Airflow issues from the nozzle with 40 mm diameter and is impinged onto the flat plate which is placed 10 mm away from the nozzle. Methane gas flow is ejected from the porous plate whose inner and outer diameters are 50 mm and 78 mm.

A Blue Four-Leaf Clover JET that Brings Happiness

Explanation
A combustion image of a four-hole pre-chamber plug recorded in an optical gasoline engine (bottom-view). Four jets from the holes volumetric ignites the pre-mixture and achieves a rapid combustion by a blue flame similar to a four-leaf clover. We hope that this combustion will contribute to the reduction of CO2 emissions from internal combustion engines and bring happiness to all people.
